Obedient is defined as doing or
willing to do what someone is told to do by a superior without showing any sign of
grumbling or recalcitrant. It can be obedient to parents by children, obedient
to those in authority over you; obedient to the societal laws and more
especially, obedient to God’s word. It is said: “obedient dog is better than a
rebellion army”.
In Ephesians 6:1-3, we were told the
benefit of being obedient to our parents in the Lord: how it would increase our
days on earth; there is a promise attached: “it will be well with thee” In
verse 5. It says, “Servants, be obedient to them that are your masters
according to the flesh, with fear and trembling, in singleness of your heart, as
unto Christ. Only that singular art of
being obedience have guarantee us the fullest of our days on earth. Hallelujah!
It means we are free from untimely death; our bones will not be broken on the
road by accident. You will not see
untimely death in Jesus name.
In every society or organization there
must be a laid down rules to be followed and it must be obeyed. For example, an
army junior officer has no any other tune of greeting to his superiors than ‘good
morning sir’. No matter the hour of the
day, he obeys the rule he was trained for to remain in the service.
In Genesis twelve, Abraham obeyed
when the Lord asked him to leave his country, his father’s land to go to the
land he never knew. He did not whine, not minding the inconveniences that must
be associated with such an unprecedented journey. He endured all miseries and
the discouraging vicissitude of long waiting. Abraham was epitome of obedience.
In Genesis 22, he did not wry at what did not look as real when God told him to
go to the land of Moriah and offer his son (Isaac the long waited child) for a
burnt offering to him. He obeyed. Today he is a cynosure to the Christendom.
It is better Christians realize the
important of obedience and its place in the heart of God. We should stop every
form of disobedient to the rules and regulations of the church we belong to so
that we eat the good of the land. Isaiah 1 v 19.
We
cannot discuss the issues of obedience effectively without getting inkling to
the aftermath of disobedient. In the book
of Jonah chapter one and two you will see how pitiable situation Jonah was when
he disobeyed and tried to outwit God. Bible said “Jonah flee from the presence
of God”. But at the end he was wrong, he was not aware that God was in the boat
he boarded to escape from Him. He was thrown away to the sea from the boat to
save the lives of many. You know the rest of the story – No one can escape from
God.
Gahazi was another sufferer of
disobedient to his master in the Lord. In 2 kings’ chapter five, he was greed.
In spite of his master’s words of warning not to receive any gift from Naaman,
he disobeyed and the result was the transfer of leprosy from the healed army
captain of the Syria to him and his generation.
It is understandable, therefore, the
truism of our daddy in the Lord, the General Overseer (Pastor E.A. Adeboye),
that: “It is cheaper to be obedient than disobedient. And again, I want you to
keep in mind with no tinge of doubt that the house obedience built carries long
life to those who live in it. See you there!
